Dr. Evardone

Dr. Milagros Evardone is a Florida licensed psychologist and board-eligible rehabilitation psychologist with over 15 years of experience in the mental health field treating individuals with disabilities. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Texas A&M University in 2009. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Medical College of Georgia/Charlie Norwood VAMC Consortium in Augusta, Georgia, with a specialty in the Psychology of Women. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Rehabilitation Psychology at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital (JAHVH) in Tampa, Florida.

As a bilingual psychologist fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Evardone has been dedicated to treating individuals with a variety of physical disabilities (e.g., spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, amputations), chronic medical conditions (e.g., chronic pain, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS), and co-morbid psychiatric diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and PTSD. She has spent the majority of her career serving Veterans and Active Duty Service Members through inpatient and outpatient services at the Orlando VA Medical Center and James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, Florida. As the daughter of a Navy Veteran and granddaughter of a WWII Army Veteran, she is happy to continue serving the military population through the private sector, while also extending her expertise to non-service members.

Dr. Evardone provides warm, person-centered, and evidence-based psychological assessment and psychotherapy services. She believes in tailoring treatment to the individual and focuses on an integrationist model, blending various therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and psychodynamic theory) and considering multicultural factors (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion/spirituality) impacting health and well-being. In addition, she completed specialized clinical certification through the VA in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP), Cognitive Processing for PTSD (CPT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Dr. Evardone is an active member of APA, Division 22, and previously served on various committees of the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals. She has published several peer-reviewed journal articles on sex differences in psychopathology, personality assessment, and spinal cord injury education, as well as presented at various national conferences. Dr. Evardone is a graduate of the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (LIWP) Signature Program and maintains clinical and research interests in gender differences in disability/rehabilitation and psychopathology, hormonal influences on behavior, and race/cultural factors influencing treatment.
